The first Noel, the angels did say was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay; in fields where they lay keeping their sheep, on a cold winter's night that was so deep. Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel, born is the king of Israel. They looked straight up and saw a star shining in the east, beyond them far; and to the earth it gave great light, and so it continued both day and night. Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel, born is the king of Israel. The star drew nigh to the northwest, over Bethlehem it took its rest; and there it did both stop and stay, right over the place where Jesus lay. Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel, born is the king of Israel. Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel, born is the king of Israel. Born is the king of Israel.

What Child is this who laid to rest on Mary's lap is sleeping? Whom Angels greet with anthems sweet, while shepherds watch are keeping? This, this is Christ the King Whom shepherds guard and angels sing Westward leading still proceeding The Babe, the Son of Mary So bring Him incense, gold and myrrh, Come Peasant, King to own Him The King of Kings salvation brings, Let loving hearts enthrone Him. Raise, raise a song on high, His mother sings her lullaby. Westward leading still proceeding The Babe, the Son of Mary Myrrh is mine, its bitter perfume Breathes a life of gathering gloom; Sorrowing, sighing, bleeding, dying, Sealed in the stone cold tomb. Star of Wonder star of night, star with royal beauty bright Westward leading, still proceeding, Guide us to thy perfect light. This, this is Christ the King Whom shepherds guard and angels sing Haste, haste to bring him laud the Babe, the Son of Mary Westward leading still proceeding The Babe, the Son of Mary

So much for all my plans this time last year To be better brighter bolder — make the old me disappear It sure feels like things are just about the same Now I’m wishing for some snow but all that’s coming down is rain There’s still the same old problems left to face Still greed and hunger haunting every time and every place Still sinking ships and forests up in flames Still mistakes that hold you hostage, and that call you out by name. And yet it’s Christmas Yet it’s Christmas Here it comes. Still, it comes. This year has been a bitter sort of pill Keeping up took all I had, and keeping sane was harder still But I am hanging on to hope. I’m holding on. Cause wherever there is darkness there’s a chance for a new dawn Because it’s Christmas Because it’s Christmas Here it comes. Still, it comes On this broken, gorgeous, ever-churning earth There is nothing quite as glorious as the chance at rebirth It’s in each kindness that you offer or receive It’s in the wind that stirs the trees. It’s in the moments you just breathe. Yes, it’s Christmas Yes, it’s Christmas Here it comes. Still, it comes. Next December, I may find myself back here Seeking new answers to old questions, on a path that’s not clear There may still be the same old problems left to face But there’s a chance to try again—a chance at peace, a chance at grace Because it’s Christmas Because it’s Christmas Here it comes. Still, it comes.

O come, O come, Emmanuel And ransom captive Israel That mourns in lonely exile here Until the Son of God appear Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel Shall come to thee, O Israel O come, Thou Dayspring, come and cheer Our spirits by Thine advent here Disperse the gloomy clouds of night And death's dark shadows put to flight Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel Shall come to thee, O Israel O come, Thou Key of David, come And open wide our heavenly home Make safe the way that leads on high And close the path to misery Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel Shall come to thee, O Israel Shall come to thee, O Israel

I'll have a blue Christmas without you I'll be so blue just thinking about you Decorations of red on a green Christmas tree Won't be the same dear, if you're not here with me And when those blue snowflakes start falling That's when those blue memories start calling You'll be doin' all right, with your Christmas of white But I'll have a blue, blue blue blue Christmas And maybe you’ll have a blue Christmas without me You’ll be so blue just thinkin’ about me Decorations of red on a green Christmas tree Won't be the same dear, if we are not a we So when those blue snowflakes start falling That's when those blue memories start calling And you might do all right, with your Christmas of white—but no. We’ll have a blue, blue blue Christmas

O Holy Night 04:11
O Holy night, the stars are brightly shining It is the night of our dear Savior's birth Long lay the world in sin and error pining 'Til He appeared and the soul felt its worth A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn Fall on your knees O hear the angel voices O night divine! O night when Christ was born O night divine! O night, O night divine! Truly He taught us to love one another His law is love and His gospel is peace Chains shall He break, for the slave is my brother And in His name, all oppression shall cease Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we Let all within us praise His holy name Christ is the Lord! O Praise His name forever His power and glory evermore proclaim His power and glory evermore proclaim O, holy night.

The Magi 03:58
Oh the magi were the prophets  And they wandered through the desert They saw the star above them  And they knew they'd find their way Through the valley of the shadow  With the hope of human kindness They were strengthened by the vision  Of a new and brighter day. And the wise men spoke of peace on earth,  Of harmony and struggle Know you now a cycle's gone and a new one is revealed. In the weaving of your fingers In the whisper of a love that's born again In the weaving of your fingers In a promise that we made that never ends. Well now each man is a pilgrim,  Yes, we all must make the journey And it seems that time is telling us to be all that we can To help lift up the fallen, we must sow the seeds of goodness The torch is passed among us now to light the way of man. For the heart of man's a palace  And his dreams are as the sunlight They burn away the darkness, as they warm the freezing cold As an eagle flying higher, as a river through the canyon The diamond star shines down upon, a pathway to the soul And the wise men spoke of peace on earth,  Of harmony and struggle Know you now a cycle's gone and a new one is revealed. In the weaving of your fingers In the whisper of a love that's born again In the weaving of your fingers In a promise that we made that never ends. In a promise that we made that never ends. In a promise that we made that never ends.

It came upon a midnight clear, That glorious song of old, From angels bending near the earth, To touch their harps of gold. "Peace on the earth, goodwill to men From heaven's all-gracious King!" The world in solemn stillness lay To hear the angels sing. Still through the cloven skies they come, With peaceful wings unfurled; And still their heavenly music floats O'er all the weary world. But man, at war with man, hears not The love song that they bring. So hush the noise, ye men of strife, And hear the angels sing. So hush the noise, ye men of strife, And hear the angels sing.

Silent Night 03:31
Silent night, holy night All is calm, All is bright Round yon virgin mother and child Holy infant so tender and mild Sleep in heavenly peace Sleep in heavenly peace Silent night, holy night Shepherds quake at the sight Glory streams from heaven afar Heavenly host sing hallelujah Christ the Savior is born Christ the Savior is born Silent night, holy night Son of God, love's pure light Radiant beams from thy holy face With the dawn of redeeming grace Jesus, Lord at thy birth Jesus, Lord at thy birth Silent night, holy night All is calm, All is bright Round yon virgin mother and child Holy infant so tender and mild Sleep in heavenly peace Sleep in heavenly peace

A THRILL OF HOPE

From Boston-based singer-songwriter Patrice Taddonio comes a folk-pop holiday album that captures both the melancholy of the season and its quiet, thrilling hope. Features one original song and eight creative, memorable reimaginings of Christmas classics old & new.

"The music of this emotionally intense season has long resonated with me -- but in making this album, I immersed myself in the long and varied Christmas catalog to an entirely new degree," Taddonio says. "From stumbling across an obscure verse of 'It Came Upon a Midnight Clear' that speaks to our times with lightning-bolt clarity, to discovering that 'What Child Is This' and 'We Three Kings' make excellent medley-bedfellows, to being inspired to write my own song about Christmas, the passage of time, and the ebbs and flows of optimism, I’ve found such fulfillment along the way — and I’m thrilled to share the results with you."

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Patrice Taddonio wrote her first song at the age of 5 — a little vocal ditty encouraging a family member not to worry.

She’s been creating music that explores themes of connection and yearning ever since.

Now an indie-folk singer-songwriter living in Boston, MA, Taddonio writes and performs songs that grapple with the complexities of trying to live a life that's meaningful in a world where immense beauty and tremendous suffering co-exist.

With award-winning lyrics that probe yearning, hope, love, blame and forgiveness, her music often explores what it means to stay optimistic in the dark.

“I’ve found that ideas and subjects that are sometimes difficult to talk about are much easier to write and sing about — and that engaging deeply with music is one of the most consistent ways to seek and find truth,” Taddonio says.

Taddonio’s song, “Hardest of All” — a probing exploration of the challenges of knowing your own heart — won the Honorable Mention in American Songwriter magazine’s May/June 2017 Lyrics Contest. It’s the lead track on her December 2016 eight-song album, “Better Than That,” which has been praised for its hauntingly beautiful melodies and reflective, incisive lyrics. Additionally, Her lyrics to “Survivor’s Guilt” won 4th place in the magazine’s November/December 2017 contest, and were printed in full in the issue.

“I hope people who listen to these songs will enjoy them, of course,” Taddonio says. “I also hope that they might come away feeling a little bit less alone in whatever struggles they may be facing — that they’re reminded that there’s often more to the story than what we can easily understand, and that we’re all more than our worst moments.”

"More Than the Sum," Taddonio’s March 2017 EP, is a compact, powerful statement from a fresh new voice in indie pop-folk, for fans of Lissie, Leonard Cohen, Brandi Carlile & Gretchen Peters. It features five thought-provoking original songs that explore what it means — and why it matters — to be who you are. Recorded in an intimate, home-studio setting on acoustic guitar and vocals, "More Than the Sum" is the work of a singer-songwriter at the top of her game, fusing lyrics that will move and challenge you with melodies that will stick with you.

Taddonio’s musical journey has been decades in the making. She taught herself to play the piano by ear on her grandparents’ piano as a kid, later taking a year of lessons, and then taught herself guitar as a teen. While growing up in Pennsylvania, she and a friend won a local orchestra’s songwriting competition for young composers. She continued to write and perform music on guitar and vocals throughout high school and college, self-releasing two CDs from her dorm room.

Now, Taddonio is a resident musician at Short Path Distillery in Everett, MA, where she plays 90-minute sets of original songs on piano, guitar, and vocals. She has performed sets at the South Shore Folk Music Club (Kingston, MA), The Plough and Stars (Cambridge, MA), and Thunder Road (Somerville, MA). Taddonio is also a frequent performer at Boston-area open mic nights.

Her new Christmas album, “A Thrill of Hope,” was released in December 2017.
